We welcome the opportunity to conduct services of either baptism or thanksgiving for children. If you are considering either of these, let’s talk.
Baptism involves the parents and the Church making promises about their support for the spiritual development of the child. In particular, the parents (or guardians) promise to share with the child the good news of the Kingdom and to nurture the child with their own Christian faith, to introduce the child to the love of Christ by the example of their love, to help them to grow in the faith of the church, and with them honestly to explore that faith.
Baptism is normally appropriate for the children of regular worshippers at Collinwood Road If you do not regularly worship with us, but want to discuss having your child baptised, please contact us to discuss what may be possible.
However, many parents may not feel able to make the baptismal promises or they would prefer to leave their child the option of being baptised as a teenager or an adult when they come to make their own profession of Christian faith. In this case, we can offer a service of thanksgiving where we simply celebrate the gift of this new life and ask God’s blessing on child and parents as they grow together.
A service of baptism would normally take place during our normal Sunday morning church service. This is also generally the case for services of thanksgiving, but in this case, there may be flexibility about when and where you want the service held.
