Collinwood Road's roots are largely in the liberal tradition, but over recent years we have become increasingly aware of the need to find ways of proclaiming the Gospel in a society where many people have little or no exposure to the Christian story.
To tell the story effectively we need to find ways of: explaining the core elements of Christian belief, but at the same time being prepared to work hard to uncover for ourselves what those core elements are; helping people to discover the importance of turning to the Bible as a place to find out what God wants of us; and giving people the opportunity to make a personal decision for Christ.
Above all we need to find ways of gossiping the Gospel to our neighbours. And we need to do this in a society where the Church has moved from the centre of the local community to being on the margins. We need to learn what it is to be a faithful remnant and how to found such a counter-cultural existence on a deeper grasp of the Bible and a more risky wrestling with God.
