Tug-of-war at the Community Fun Day

Collinwood Road Church has always had a strong tradition of involvement in our local community of Risinghurst.

Since 1988 we have run a lunch club for the elderly on Tuesdays. This is one of the main social contacts for many elderly people in our 'parish'.

Brownies meet in the church halls, and the halls are also used by a wide variety of other local organisations.

Our coffee lounge (a bright and cheerful room with armchairs and bookshelves) is open for anyone who wants to drop in for coffee and a chat every weekday morning between 10 a.m. and noon

The coffee lounge is used by a wide variety of people : those attending activities in the church halls; church members with a few minutes to spare; as well as people living on their own, for whom it is vital piece of human contact and companionship.

On the first Saturday of each month we have a breakfast morning in the church hall (the best cooked breakfast in Oxford!) from 9.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. Our local city councillors and the local neighbourhood police team also hold their monthly surgeries in the halls during the breakfast.

On the second Saturday of September we also organise a community fun-day, which aims to bring together the people of our estate for games, food, laughter and getting to know other.

"The saints are what they are not because their sanctity makes them admirable to others, but because the gift of sainthood makes it possible for them to admire everybody else"
